Brockenhurst Choir is a lively amateur mixed choir of over 80 voices, which meets regularly each week on a Tuesday evening, to rehearse for two annual concerts in May and December.  Professional soloists and orchestra join with the choir for performances.

The choir was formed in 1964. Since then there have been four chief conductors, and the choir is now under the direction of Miriam Newton, who was appointed in May 2010. Recent concerts have included performances of: A Sea Symphony, Bach Mass in B minor, Mozart Requiem, Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle, Haydn The Creation and Goodall Requiem ‘Eternal Light’.

You are warmly invited to join the audience at St Saviour’s Church on Sunday 9 December at 7.00pm to hear Handel’s ‘Messiah’ performed by Brockenhurst Choir, directed by Miriam Newton. The outstanding team of soloists: soprano Elizabeth Weisberg, tenor Tom Robson and baritone Philip Tebb who sang with the choir in Haydn’s ‘Creation’ (2016), will return, and will be joined by the mezzo soprano Kate Symonds-Joy. The orchestra will be led by Jenny Knights. Refreshments will be served in the interval.

TICKETS (£15, £5 students) are available from Streets and Pot Pourri, Brookley Road, Brockenhurst, and from Choir members. Tickets may be available on the door, but it might be advisable to buy in advance on this occasion.

Joanna Tomlinson

Joanna Tomlinson conducts the Constanza Choir, the Farnham Youth Choirs and the East London Chorus. She also works with some of the UK’s top choruses including London Symphony Chorus, Manchester Chamber Choir and the Royal College of Music Choir.

Benjamin Goodson

Benjamin is Director of Chapel Music at Somerville College, Oxford. He is musical director of the award-winning Bath Camerata, the Lea Singers chamber choir, Henley Choral Society and Youth Choirs. Benjamin is chorus master at Dorset Opera Festival, and in 2017 he makes his debut as chorus master at the Netherlands Reisopera.
