Brockenhurst Choir is a lively amateur mixed choir of over 80 voices, which meets regularly each week on a Tuesday evening, to rehearse for two annual concerts in May and December.  Professional soloists and orchestra join with the choir for performances.

The choir was formed in 1964. Since then there have been four chief conductors, and the choir is now under the direction of Miriam Newton, who was appointed in May 2010. Recent concerts have included performances of: Bach Mass in B minor, Mozart Requiem, Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle, and Goodall Requiem ‘Eternal Light’ Brockenhurst

Each year the choir welcomes one of the country’s leading young choral directors to take a workshop.

2016 POULENC: GLORIA

Benjamin Goodson

Benjamin is Director of Chapel Music at Somerville College, Oxford. He is musical director of the award-winning Bath Camerata, the Lea Singers chamber choir, Henley Choral Society and Youth Choirs. Benjamin is chorus master at Dorset Opera Festival, and in 2017 he makes his debut as chorus master at the Netherlands Reisopera.

Neil Ferris

Neil is Head of Choral Conducting at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Associate Chorus Director of the London Symphony Chorus, Music Director of Cardiff Polyphonic Choir, and Music Director of Wimbledon Choral Society. He will lead the choir in a workshop on Rossini’s ‘Petite Messe Solennelle’.

Will Dawes

Will Dawes is the Conductor of Bath Choral Society, Conductor of the Orlando Chamber Choir, Director of Ensemble 45, Chorusmaster for Ludus Baroque, Director of Music at the church of St Mary Magdalen, Oxford, Director of Frideswide Voices, and a member of the internationally acclaimed chamber choir Stile Antico.
